When you get dental implants done, you might hear that it should take about three months before your final implants are placed. However, that is not necessarily the right answer. A good cosmetic dentist will make sure that the patient’s bone grafts and tissue grafts have taken the right amount of time to heal. For the typical patient, it might be around six months before the final implants can be placed. For some patients, it might be longer. Let’s take a look at some of the different considerations for how long it can take for a complete set of implants to be done.
Factors That Go Into Your Dental Implant Process
At The Dental Concierge, our process is designed to adjust to each patient’s individual needs when it comes to their dental implants. For the typical patient, they will arrive at the clinic location, get imaging done, and may begin the grafting procedure for their implants. After the first visit, the patient will also get their temporary dentures. The typical patient will get their final implants done within six months.
Bone & Soft Tissue Grafting
Bone and soft tissue grafting is vital for the success of a dental implant. Bone grafting will help restore jaw structure and ensure the success of the implants. Bone graft tissue comes from human cadaver or other sources where available. A bone graft takes a minimum of three or four months to heal, and even a little bit longer to acquire the strength to hold an implant in place.
At The Dental Concierge, we want you to have the right amount of time for your grafts to heal. This minimizes the likelihood of infection and implant failure.
Preparing Your Implants
We also suggest the six months because it takes time for us to make your implants correctly. During your first visit, we take careful images of your mouth and smile. This allows us to make your dental implants right and make them fit the contour of your smile. When you arrive for your second appointment, your implants will look perfect and minimal adjustment will be needed to get your smile just right.
How Long Should Dental Implants Take?
At The Dental Concierge, we have found that a great time frame for the dental implant process will be anywhere from six to twelve months. For some patients, their grafts may heal quicker while other patients may require a longer time frame. At the end of the day, the ideal time will vary by patient, but longer time frames tend to yield better results.
