Scheduling Downtime For Your Dental Implants

Downtime is highly important for your dental implant treatment and other cosmetic dentistry procedures. You need to make sure to schedule time when you are off work, make sure someone can transport you to and from your appointments, and give yourself enough time to recover after the procedure is done. Let’s take a look at how you should prepare for your cosmetic dentistry appointment when you work with one of our cosmetic dentists in Cancun or Costa Rica.

Plan on taking at least two weeks off during the course of your treatment

Dental implants need two sessions. Your first session will take approximately one week. During this time, you will get imaging of your mouth to make sure that your new implants will capture every aspect of your bite. The treatment will also make sure to do any tissue grafting and bone grafting. At the end of your treatment, you will get temporary dentures.

Depending upon your specific needs, your next session will be six to twelve months out. During this time, your implants are prepared in a lab. When you come back for your next treatment, your permanent implants will be fitted, and you will leave with the perfect smile.

Plan for the right meals after your sessions

After both of your treatment sessions, you will need to make slight adjustments to your diet. Things such as smooth soups, meal replacement drinks, fruit smoothies, and juices will help you get the nutrients you need. The typical patient will need about one week to adjust their diet back to solid food. Some faster healers will be able to eat solid food again within a few days. At the end of the day, your dentist will be able to advise you when to transition back to solid foods.

We have someone to help you get to your appointments

When you get your dental implants done in the United States, you need to have a family member or friends transport you to your appointments. When you work with The Dental Concierge, you will have someone available to pick you up at the airport and take you to your appointments.

Plan on medications to help you deal with pain after your implant surgery

Some patients can get by with ibuprofen and other over-the-counter pain medications after their dental implant surgery. Other patients will need prescription pain medications. Your dentist will prescribe the necessary medications that you need to deal with pain, as well as any medication that you need to stave off infection after the procedure.
